Essential Fatty Acids (EFA)

The body needs fatty acids to survive and is able to make all but two of them: linoleic acid (LA), in the omega-6 family, and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) in the omega-3 family. These two fatty acids must be supplied by diet and therefore are considered essential fatty acids.

EPA and DHA are found in fish, seafood and fish oils. ALA is found in certain vegetable oils, walnuts, flaxseeds and soy products.

Fish Oil

Flax is a vegetable based Omega 3 that is best eaten by grinding up the flaxseeds and putting them into your foods (like cereal). You can also take flaxseed oil supplements. It contains alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) fatty acid and its benefits are similar to Fish and Krill Oil. It’s an anti-inflammatory (Cardio) and very high source of Lignans (antioxidant like). Other benefits are for blood pressure and glucose levels.
